Description of Tour
Goa is much more than beaches. It has a soul, which goes deep into unique history and rich culture. On the banks of the Mandovi River stands centuries – old complex of magnificent churches, monastries and convents, the remains of the once mighty colonial capital, which controlled the trade of Portugal’s far – flung overseas Empire. Old Goa is considered the spiritual heart of the State. Visit the largest church in Asia – Se Cathedral that is dedicated to St. Catherine. Opposite the Se Cathedral stands the Basilica of Bom Jesus built by the Jesuits in 1605. The church houses the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier, patron saint of Goa. A brief stop at St. Cajetan. The church’s facade is based on the original design of St. Peter’s in Rome. Drive past St. Augustine tower and the nunnery of St. Monica. Visit the Christian Arts Museum, which houses some of the best specimens of Goa’s distinctive and executively crafted church art. Drive to the capital city of Goa – Panjim, a small and charming city on the banks of the Mandovi River, which boasts of beautiful red – roofed houses built in Latin style, well laid gardens, statues and avenues lined with different trees. Walk through the small squares and back lanes of the town’s old quarters where the Portuguese influence is most evident and you can do a bit of shopping as well before returning back to your hotel.
